Baseball Rallies Past Ichabods

Jake Ogden blasts 3-run homer and picks up a save

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers rallied from down three runs to beat the Washburn Ichabods 6-3 on Thursday night in baseball action at Feinbloom Field.

Game 1

  • T1: The Ichabods broke through with an unearned run in the first off Barry starter Trevor Baker. Cal Watkins walked and went to third on an errant pick-off throw by Baker. He scored on a single by Trey Adams. | Washburn 1, Barry 0
  • T2: Washburn tacked on another unearned run in the second. Otto Jones ripped single into the hole at short, moved up on a bunt and scored on a fielder's choice. | Washburn 2, Barry 0
  • T4: Connor Scott blasted a solo homer in the fourth to extend the lead to three. | Washburn 3, Barry 0
  • B6: Evan Wickeri got the Bucs on the board in the sixth. He singled with one out. He stole second and went to third when the Ichabod let the throw trickle into the outfield. He scored on a ground out by Joe Stella. | Washburn 3, Barry 1
  • B8: the Bucs sent 11 men to the plate and scored five runs to take the lead in the eighth. Brandon Abreu drew a lead off walk and Savi Delgado ripped a double down the left-field line to put runners at second and third. Jake Ogden stepped up and launched a moon shot over the left field wall to put Barry up 4-3. Barry loaded the bases after an out with a walk to Stella and singles by Kevin Noriega and pinch-hitter Sebastian Garrido. Christian Maceda drew a walk to force in pinch runer Noah Gulley and Matthew Menendez dropped down a perfect squeeze bunt to bring in Noriega. | Barry 6, Washburn 3
  • T9: Odgen stepped onto the mound in the ninth and, despite walking a pair, struck out the side to preserve the win. | Barry 6, Washburn 3

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The freshmen led the Bucs on the night. In addition to Ogden's home run and save, rookie Luis Moralles (1-0) worked two hitless innings in relief to earn the win. He walked two and struck out three.
  • Junior Frank II Gonzalez made his return from last season's injury to toss four innings. He allowed one run, on Scott's homer, and four other hits and a walk, while striking out four.
  • Ichabod starter Casey Steward was sensational on the night. He allowed one unearned run on just two hits and two walks in 5.2 innings and struck out 12.
  • Austin Gerety (0-2) took the loss for Washburn. He faced four batters, recorded one out and allowed three runs on a two hits and a walk, including the homer by Ogden.
  • Watkins, Adams and Joens each had two hits for Washburn.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers continue the homestand with Erskine on Friday at 6:00 pm. The Flying Fleet lost 8-7 to Lynn on Thursday to drop to 3-2.
