Baseball Sails Past 'Fish

Bucs improve to 7-3

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers sailed past the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 5-1 in baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Tuesday night.

SUMMARY:

  • B1: The Bucs pushed across three runs in the first off Devin Blair, the first of eight different pitchers the Sailfish used in the game. Brandon Sanchez led off with a double to left and scored on a single by Jake Ogden. After a walk to Christian Maceda and a ground out, Ogden scored when shortstop Mikey Casaleggio threw away the relay on a potential double play ball. Sean Shelly drove in Kevin Noriega with a double to right. | Barry 3, PBA 0
  • B6: Joe Stella walked to lead off the inning and moved to third on a pair of wild pitches. He scored on a double down the left field line by Noriega. | Barry 4, PBA 0
  • T7: Nate Housen blasted a solo home run with two outs to get the 'Fish on the board. | Barry 4, PBA 1
  • B7: Barry got the run back in the bottom of the inning. Sanchez singled with one out and went to third on a hit-and-run by Branden Abreu. Maceda drove in Sanchez with a fly ball to left. | Barry 5, PBA 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Anthony Bennetti (1-0) turned in a quality start for the Bucs, tossing five shutout innings on just two hits and a walk, while striking out seven.
  • Federico Zapata tossed the last three innings to earn his second save. He allowed the one run on Housen's homer and four other hits and struck out one.
  • Sanchez went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers' home stand continues with a three-game Sunshine State Conference set play this weekend on Friday and Saturday against Saint Leo.
