Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Eagles

Bucs drop opener and bounce back for the night cap

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers split a Sunshine State Conference baseball doubleheader with the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday at Feinbloom Field, dropping the series two games to one.

Game 1

  • T2: Josh Reynolds walked and scored on an error. | ERAU 1, Barry 0
  • B3: Barry took the lead in the third. Brandon Sanchez singled and Noah Gulley walked to start the inning. After a bunt, Jake Ogden drove in Sanchez and, though he was thrown out trying to steal, he allowed Gulley to sprint home from third. | Barry 2, ERAU 1
  • T4: The Eagles tied the game in the fourth. Garrett Bogart walked and scored on a ground out. | Barry 2, ERAU 2
  • T5: The Eagles took the lead in the fifth. Kevin Vittoria and Camden Triaficante singled to start the inning. After a bunt, Vittoria scored on a ground out and Triaficante come in on a double by Bogart. | ERAU 4, Barry 2

  • T4: The Eagles chipped a run off the lead. Reynolds doubled to lead off the inning and, after a passed ball, scored on a ground out. | Barry 3, ERAU 1
  • T7: In the seventh, the Eagles got another run. Vittoria singled to lead things off and scored on a double by Timo Aracena. | Barry 3, ERAU 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Angel Cespedes (2-0) worked six strong strong innings, allowing just one unearned run on six hits and two walks while striking out five in the nightcap.
  • Derek Cabrera came on in the eighth with the go-ahead run on base and no outs and worked out of the jam, then closed it out in the ninth for his first save. In two scoreless innings, he allowed two walks and struck out three.
  •  Dylan Moran (1-1) took the loss for the Eagles in game two. He gave up three runs on seven hits in 7.0 innings and struck out three.
  • Trevor Baker (0-1) took the loss in game one. He worked five innings in relief allowing three runs on seven hits and struck out six.
  • Connor Dunnam (1-2) worked 7.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks. He struck out seven.
  • Gunner Harrison got the final two outs on a double play to record his first save.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry hosts the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup.
