JV Baseball Splits Twinbill With Bobcats

Bucs drop first game, rebound to take nightcap

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry's junior varsity baseball team split a twinbill with the JV squad from St. Thomas on Wednesday at Feinbloom Field, dropping the first game 10-7, but rebounding to take the nightcap 11-3.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • T1: The Bobcat pushed across two runs in the first, after loading the bases on three straight walks to start the game. Pablo Degado scored when Derrick Roy was hit by a pitch and Mikey Figueroa scored on a ground out. | STU 2, Barry 0 
  • B1: Barry jumped in front in the bottom of the first. After loading the bases themselves on a bunt single by Dylan Ecken, a walk to Aramis Ramirez, Jr., and a single to shallow center by Freddie Rodriguez, Damian Tomayo plated two runs with a double down the right field line and CJ Bussell followed with a two-run triple to left center. Bussell later scored on the front end a double steal. | Barry 5, STU 2
  • B3: Bussell scored another run in the third. After singling to start the inning, he scored on a fly by by Nicolas Garcia. | Barry 6, STU 2
  • T4: The Bobcats tied the game in the fourth. The first three men reached on two Buccaneer errors and a hit batsman, which broght in one run. Figueroa knocked in two more with a double to left center and later scored on a fly ball. | Barry 6, STU 6
  • B5: The Bucs re-took the lead on a two-out RBI single by Alex Czarnomski, dring in Akira Nakamura, who had walked. | Barry 7, STU 6
  • T6: The Bobcats took the lead for good in the sixth. Delgado reached on another Buccaneer error and scored on a double by Roy. Sammy Hernandez followed with a three-run homer to left. | STU 10, Barry 7

Game 2

  • B2: Barry got on the board first in the second inning. Vincenzo Macolino walked, stole second and third and scored on a single by Matthew Huembes. | Barry 1, STU 0
  • B3: Barry tacked on three runs in the third. Tomayo walked with one out and Bussell followed with a single to right. After Macolino walked to load the bases, Brodie Jellum forced in Tomaya with a walk. Alex Campbell had an RBI single to drive in Bussell and Macolino scored on a wild pitch. | Barry 4, STU 0
  • T4: Nelson Cabrera led off the fourth with a double down the left-field line and later scored on a wild pitch. | Barry 4, STU 1
  • B5: Barry sent 11 men to the plate and scored five runs in the fifth. Macolino, who walked again, socred on a wild pitch. Huembes had another RBI single and Luis Moralles ripped a bases-clearing double to left center. | Barry 9, STU 1
  • B6: Barry plated two more runs in the sixth, without benefit of a hit as the Bobcats walked in two runs. | Barry 11, STU 1
  •  T7: The Bobcats got two runs back in the seventh. The first two batters walked. One scored on a Buccaneer error and the other came on on a wild pitch. | Barry 11, STU 3

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Nick Groover (0-1) took the loss in game one for the Bucs. He allowed four unearned runs on three hits in 1.2 innings. 
  • Robbie Throop (1-0) picked up the win in the nightcap. He worked 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit and one walk, while stiking out one.
  • Jorge Valdez (1-0) got the win in game one for the Bobcats. He allowed two hits and two walks in 1.1 innings.
  • Alessandro Bolanos got the save with a scoreless seventh.
  • Adrian Valdez (0-1) took the loss in game two, allowing one run on two hits and three walks in 2.0 innings.
  • Rodriguez went 5-for-7 at the plate to lead the Bucs. He scored one run and drove in another, stealing a pair of bases.
  • Bussell had three hits, socring three runs and driving in two. Tomayo and Huembes each drove in two as well.
  • Moralles led the Bucs with three RBI.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host Atlantis, on Monday, Feb. 20  at 3 p.m. on Feinbloom Field.
