Lee Pitches and Hits Buccaneer Softball to Split with Warriors

Barry University pitchers toss sixth shutout of season

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team split its out-of-region doubleheader with East Stroudsburg University on Sunday afternoon at Buccaneer Field in Miami Shores, Florida. After falling behind 2-1 and coming to its last at bat in the top of the 7th, Warrior center fielder Abigail Weirich launched a two-run homer to right field to lift her team to a 3-2 win in the opener. Paige Zigmund (W, 1-1) went the distance allowing just four hits to the Buccaneers, three in the 6th when Barry scored its two runs to take the lead. Haelee Angelico (L, 2-2) took the loss while allowing just three hits (two days after her first career no-hitter). In the nightcap, Cassandra Lee (W, 4-0) pitched - her first complete game of the season - and hit - a single, an RBI, and two runs scored - as the Buccaneers took the nightcap, 5-0, for their sixth shutout of the season (8-3 overall). Warrior starter Maddy Pritchard (L, 1-2) took the loss while allowing just one earned run and three hits. East Stroudsburg returns to Pennsylvania with a 2-4 mark after its Florida trip.

Cassandra Lee reached on a fielder's choice RBI grounder to second base and Thompson had a head first slide across the plate for the tying run. Lee stole second and eventually scored the go-ahead run on Chamorro's single to right field. | Barry 2, East Stroudsburg 1
