Lexington, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its 2023 Division II All-Americans on Wednesday, with Barry University's Diana Akopova earning Second Team honors.
The 2022 AVCA Player of the Year, Akopova earns All-American status for the second-consecutive season after leading the South region during the regular season in kills per set behind a 4.91 rate, second-best in Division II and was one of only eight student-athletes to eclipse 500 kills during the regular season with 501. She surpassed 20 kills eight times and recorded the second-most kills in a three-set match with 28 against Shorter on Oct. 21, tied for the fifth-most in a four-set match with 29 against Flagler on Sept. 1 and tied for the eighth-most in a five-set match with 30 against Montevallo on Sept. 8. She also contributed a team-best 306 total kills on a 2.97 average with 0.40 blocks and 0.33 service aces.
Her All-American accolades joins Sunshine State Conference First Team, Division II Conference Commissioner Association (CCA) All-South Region First Team and AVCA All-South Region First team plaques earned during the 2023 season.
Barry concluded the 2023 campaign with an 11-18 overall record, going 5-15 within SSC action.
