COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Barry University men's soccer stars Iker Berruezo and David Polanco were named to the D2 CCA All-America teams on Wednesday.
Berruezo, who was named SSC Defensive Player of the Year, earned a spot on the All-America First-Team. The Garinoain, Spain-product led a Buccaneers defense that allowed the fewest goals in SSC play (3) and have posted nine shutouts in 19 games. Berruezo leads his team with 1,597 minutes played and has scored five goals, including two game-winners.
Polanco, who was named the 2023 Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Year, SSC tournament MVP and South Region Player of the Year was named to the Third-Team. He recorded 15 goals and one assist, to lead the conference in scoring. He added a league-best four game-winners.Â
Berruezo is the first First-Team All-American since forward Mark Anderson in 2011. Forward Flavio Colasanti was a Third-Team selection and midfielder Francisco Greco was honorable Mention in 2018, when Barry won the NCAA National Championship.
Men's soccer finished 13-5-1 and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, falling to 14th-ranked Limestone 2-1.
