Women's Basketball Conquers Florida National

Bucs post near record-setting numbers in win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --  The Barry women's basketball team posted near-record numbers to beat Florida National 103-42 on Cesar Odio Court on Sunday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The game started off close and was tied 9-9 with 5:50 left in the first period. But Barry closed on a 17-4 run to take the lead at the first break. | Barry 26, FNU 13
  • 2Q - The Bucs maintained a double-figure lead for the whole quarter, pushing to as many as 18 on a Rachel Murray layup with 3:59 to play. But the Conquistadors rallied to cut the lead to 14 by the end of the period. | Barry 42, FNU 28
  • 3Q - Things started to go awry for the visitors in the second half, as Barry opened with a 14-2 run, pushing the lead to 26. After trading baskets left the lead at 58-34 with 2:10 left, the Bucs pulled away again with an 11-0 run to close the period. The Conquistadors scored just six points in period. | Barry 69, FNU 34
  • 4Q - The wheels fell off completely for the Conquistadors in the fourth period, as Barry opened with a 21-1 run. A Kalea Rainey three-pointer with 4:57 left gave the Bucs a 55-point lead, 90-35. After two baskets by FNU cut the lead to 51, Barry scored 11 unanswered points to push the margin to 61 and, after an Ana Gascon Jumper qith 1:05 led by 63. | Barry 103, FNU 42

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Audrey Jennings led the Bucs with 18 points.
  • Kayla Lindsey with 16 points and Rainey with 11 both set career highs in the game. 
  • Rachel Murray also added 11 points.
  • Tyran Kirlew led the Conqs with 10 points as the only player in double-figures.
  • Sanaya Shrader had 10 rebounds to lead the Bucs, while Andreonia Doe had nine and Britney Mapang eight. 
  • The Bucs grabbed 70 rebounds, including 45 on the offensive end, which led to 35 second-chance points. The 70 boards are the second-most in program history. The record, 92, was set against Puerto Rico-Cayey on Jan. 24, 2000.
  • Lindsey had six steals, while Mapang and Audrey Jennings each had five.
  • The Bucs forced 38 turnovers, with 25 steals, leading to 54 points. The turnovers are the second-most the Bucs have ever forced, falling just one shy of the record set against Puerto Rico-Cayey on Nov. 21, 2005. The 25 steals are also the second-most, four behind the total against the Toritas.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry hosts Lake Superior State on Sunday, Dec. 17 before taking off for Christmas break.
