Barry earned the automatic bid and a first-round bye after winning the regular season and tournament titles in the Sunshine State Conference and advanced to the third round with a 5-1 win over fifth-seeded Lincoln Memorial in the second round.

The Bucs are paced by a trio of players who won their player of the year awards in the SSC. Forward David Polanco was the Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 15 goals, four game-winners and 31 points. Defender Iker Berruezo and keeper Rafael Furlani were named Defensive Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year after leading a defense that was second in the league in goals against average (1.00) and shutouts (9). In addition to those First-Team selections, midfielders Juan Pablo Correa and Nicolas Villalobos and defenders Lucas Silva and Oier Calvillo were named to the Second-Team and forward Scott Neil made the Third-Team. Polanco was named the South Region Player of the Year by D2CCA, while Berruezo also earned a First-Team nod and Villalobos and Furlani made the All-Region Second-Team.

Limestone also earned an automatic bid. After finishing runner-up in the South Atlantic Conference regular season, the Saints took down Coker, Lincoln Memorial, and regular season champion Wingate in the conference tournament to capture the program's first SAC Tournament Championship. The Saints dispatched eighth-seed Clayton State 2-0 in the second round.

The Saints placed six players on the All-Southeast Region team. Graduate forward Claudel N'goubou, senior defender Stefan Roeb, freshman midfielder Bilal Camara, and freshman goalkeeper Henrik Dahl were all named to the First-Team. In addition, graduate midfielder Ruben Carvalho and senior forward Mark Radoki were selected to the Second-Team.

The winner advances to quarterfinal, facing the winner of second-seeded Florida Tech against sixth-seed West Florida.
