MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Five members of Barry's Sunshine State Conference champion men's soccer team earned Academic All-District honors from College Sports Communicators.
Seniors Iker Berruezo and Juan Pablo Correa and juniors Jean Ghafourian, Juan Simoniello and Peekay Stoffle posted the requisite grade point averages, while satisfying the playing requirements. Candidates must post a minimum 3.50 GPA, while either playing in 90 percent of the team's games, or starting at least 66 percent of the games.

Berruezo, a defender from Garinoain, Spain, is a graduate student working on his MBA, was named the SSC Defensive Player of the Year and a First-Team All-Conference pick, after being one of only two players to start every game. He has a 4.0 GPA at Barry. In addition to his defensive work, where he has led the Bucs to a 1.00 goals against average and nine shutouts in 18 games, he is second on the team with five goals and third with 11 points.
Correa, a midfielder from Cali, Colombia, carries a 3.925 GPA in sport management. Playing in 17 games and starting 14, he was a Second-Team All-SSC pick and helped lead the Bucs to the SSc regular season and tournament championships in the same year for the first time. It was also the first time in program history that Barry won the regular season title in back-to-back years.
Ghafourian, a defender from Köln, Germany, has a 3.732 GPA in business management. He missed the first few games, but returned to play in 13 games, starting 12 as the Bucs won two league titles. In addition to helping anchor the defense, he has chipped in three goals, including the game-winner at Rollins, and an assist.
Simoniello, a forward from Rosario, Argentina, played in all 18 games, starting two. He has a 3.529 GPA in sport management. He has chipped in two assists, including one on the final goal in the 5-1 win over Lincoln Memorial in the NCAA Tournament.
Stoffle, from Miami, Fla., has a 3.803 GPA in business management. Playing in 16 games and starting 12, he has kicked in two goals and four assists, while seeing action at all levels of the field. He earned a spot on the All-SSC Tournament team, as Barry captured the title for the third time in program history.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team men's soccer Academic All-America® honorees will be announced December 19. The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed at the links above.
The Division II CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II Academic All-America® programs.
