Men's Soccer Faces Railsplitters In NCAA Second Round Action

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The fourth-seeded Barry Buccaneers host the #5 Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 6:00 pm on Buccaneer Field in the second round of the NCAA Division II Super Region 2 men's soccer tournament. The game will be streamed on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network with live stats provided by StatBroadcast.

Barry earned the automatic bid and a first-round bye after winning the regular season and tournament titles in the Sunshine State Conference and will face fifth-seeded Lincoln Memorial in the second round. Both team are among the top offsensive squads, with Barry ranking 25th in goals and LMU 27th. The Bucs are 16 in goal differential, while the Railsplitters are 21st. 

The Bucs are paced by a trio of players who won their player of the year awards in the SSC. Forward David Polanco was the Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 14 goals, four game-winners and 29 points. Defender Iker Berruezo and keeper Rafael Furlani were named Defensive Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year after leading a defense that was second in the league in goals against average (1.00) and shutouts (9). In addition to those First-Team selections, midfielders Juan Pablo Correa and Nicolas Villalobos and defenders Lucas Silva and Oier Calvillo were named to the Second-Team and forward Scott Neil made the Third-Team.

LMU earned an at-large bid after falling to the Wingate Bulldogs in the South Atlantic Conference tournament semifinals. Forward Daniel Burko was named the SAC Offensive Player of the Year after posting 19 goals and three assists. He was joined on the First-Team by midfielder Kriton Kiousis, while defender Leandro Dos Santos Haesler made the Second-Team.

The winner advances to the round of 16, facing the winner of the match pitting top-seeded Limestone with the winner of the Clayton State/Lenoir-Rhyne match.
