Volleyball Serves Sailfish In 3-1 Win

Miami Shores, Fla. - Anchored by a defensive effort that held visiting Palm Beach Atlantic to a .069 hitting percentage, the Barry University volleyball team overcame an opening set loss to defeat the Sailfish 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-14)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Set 1 -Trailing late in the opening set 23-19, the Buccaneers rallied to get within one point at 23-22 before PBA scored the ensuing point and ended the frame two points later.
  • Set 2 - Facing another late deficit at 23-20 in set two, the Bucs used a 5-0 run to even the overall score.
  • Set 3 - Barry scored the opening two points of the third set and never trailed, quickly creating a double-digit separation at 15-5 and kept the lead above six for the rest of the stanza.
  • Set 4 - Barry used an early 5-0 run to take an 8-3 lead, responding to a 4-0 PBA run with six-straight points to create a 14-7 lead. The Bucs pushed their lead to double-digits at 21-10, ending PBA's rally at three points before scoring the final three points of the night. 
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Varvara Osychenko boasted 22 digs and 21 kills, adding a pair of solo blocks and assisted blocks.
  • Diana Akopova chipped in 12 kills with three service aces and two assisted blocks.
  • Biancaliz Cruz served four aces with 10 digs and seven kills.
  • Ivana Zujovic served three aces.
  • Sarah Willey chipped in 21 digs with three service aces.
  • Fiona Baker dished out 25 assists.
  • Barry held a 70-53 advantage in digs and 13-9 edge in service aces while both sides tallied nine blocks.
ON THE HORIZON:
The Buccaneers host Eckerd on Friday, Nov. 17 with first serve set for 7 p.m.
