Volleyball Beats Panthers At Home

Bucs improve to 5-1 in SSC play

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry Buccaneers bounced back and defeated Florida Tech in straight sets (25-17) (25-11) (25-16) on Friday night at home in the Health & Sports Center. The Bucs improve to 12-1 overall, and to 5-1 in league play.

SUMMARY:

  • 1st set | The Bucs got off to a very hot start, going up 16-3. Jeyhlen Thomas, Diana Akopova, Mariana Bertrán and Christy Paul all recorded kills to fuel the run. The Bucs got the lead up to 18-5, but the Panthers fought back and scored four straight to make it 18-9. The Bucs then rolled off four more in a row and carried the momentum to win the set and start the match strong.  | Barry 25, Florida Tech 17
  • 2nd set | The Bucs started slower in the second set, going down 6-3. However, Barry fought back and took a lead of 10-7. With Barry up 15-10, they then scored eight straight and put the set out of reach for the panthers. The Bucs held the Panthers to a hitting percentage of -.080.   • 3rd set | The Bucs started the final set strong, going up 5-2. The Panthers haulted the Bucs momentum, making the score 9-8 Bucs. Then Barry scored three in a row to go up 12-8. The Bucs kept building on the lead and secured the match. Akopova recorded 10 kills in the set. NOTEWORTHY:
  • Akopova recorded 21 kills on the night, with a hitting percentage of .486.
  • Borcic totaled 35 assist, which led to a team hitting percentage of .333 and also recorded five aces.
  • Paul recorded four blocks on the night. 
  • Luana Bulara and Djuly Schmorantz both recorded 11 digs.
