MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers put two members on the Men's At-Large Academic All-South Region Team, announced by the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Barry tennis players Alejandro Ibañez Gallego and Tim Büttner were named to the Academic All-Region team.
Ibañez Gallego graduated in December with a 3.62 GPA in management and is currently in his first semester of the MBA program at Barry. A two-time ITA South Region singles champs, he has led the Bucs to back-to-back NCAA Division II National Champsionships and the 2022 ITA Indoor Championship. A two-time ITA singles All-American, he also won the 2019 ITA Cup Singles Championship. A three-time member of the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, he is a 2x ITA Scholar All-American. He has a 30-9 dual match record in singles and 30-13 mark in doubles.
Büttner graduated with a 3.85 GPA in sport management and is a 4.0 student in the MBA program at Barry. He helped lead the Bucs to the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship and the 2022 ITA Indoor title. He has twice been named to the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll and the ITA Scholar All-America team. His career singles record in dual matches is 18-2 and he has a 23-7 mark in doubles.
The 2021-22 Academic All-Region® At-Large Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First-team Academic All-Region® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late July.
The CoSIDA Academic All-South Region® team includes the student-athletes listed below and includes student-athletes from the Sunshine State Conference, Gulf South Conference and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
