HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Argonauts broke out on top quickly in doubles as Cordiero and Costa knocked out Giuliato and Cazaban 6-2 at number three.
- But the Bucs came back to win on court two behind the 21st-ranked pair of Ibañez Gallego and Rodriguez 6-3 over Bandiera and Miralles Miro.
- The double point all came down to the top flight, and West Florida had it all their own way early as #18 Bermejo and Descarrega led 4-0 over #19 Forcano and Gutierrez. But the Bucs battled back and took the match and the point 7-5, winning seven of the last eight games.
- In singles, the Bucs won four of the six first sets.
- Forcano quickly ripped through Bandiera 6-1, 6-2 at number four.
- Ibañez Gallego, ranked #13, made it 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over #17 Bermejo at number two.
- It was a race to finish line between #7 Palacios at number one and #73 Rodriguez at number five. Palacios got the clincher over UWF's #14 Juan Cabrera 6-4, 6-4.
- The other matches went unfinished.
NOTEWORTHY:
- For Barry, it is their 17th South Regional championship and the 23rd time that they have advanced to the NCAA Division II finals.
- The Finals are May 18-22 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
- Since losing the national championship match to the Argonauts in 2017, Barry has won six in a row in the series.
- Barry has won five national championships, including the last two in a row. The Bucs are currently fourth all-time in championships (Lander - 8; Southern Illinois-Edwardsville - 7, UC - Irvine - 6).
- Forcano leads the Bucs with 16 singles wins this season, followed by Rodgiuez (13) and Palacios (12).
