Baseball Earns Another Walk-off Win, Beating the Tritons 12-11 in 12 innings

Bucs have three walk-offs this year

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers worked overtime to walk-off a 12-11 win over the Eckerd Tritons in 12 innings in a game spread across Friday night and Saturday afternoon at Feinbloom Field. The game was suspended on Friday in the seventh inning, with Eckerd leading 7-4, and resumed at 5:01 pm on Saturday afternoon, before going into extra innings.

The Bucs rallied from three runs down on three seperate occasions before walking-off with the win in the 12th inning.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • T1: The Tritons charged out of the gate with five runs in the first inning off Barry starter Arrison Perez. Matt Donofrio singled to drive in two runs and Michael Ballard had a two-run double. | Eckerd 5, Barry 0
  • T2: Eckerd added two more runs in second. Donofrio drove in Mikey Burke, who led off with a double and later scored himself on an error. | Eckerd 7, Barry 0
  • B5: Kevin Noriega drilled a live-drive homer over the left field wall to trim three runs off the lead, scoring Branden Abreu and Omar Baldo who had walked. | Eckerd 7, Barry 3
  • B6: David Vazquez smacked a solo homer in the sixth. | Eckerd 7, Barry 4
  • T7: The game was suspended in the top of the seventh due a sudden thunderstorm and resumed on Saturday afternoon.
  • B7: Joe Stella drew a leadoff walk and scored on a ground ball by Brandon Sanchez. | Eckerd 7, Barry 5
  • T8: Joe Wike singled with one out and later scored on a ground by Donofrio. | Eckerd 8, Barry 5
  • B9: The loaded the bases with one out after Stella was hit by a pitch and Sebastian Garrido and Sanchez both singled. Vazquez singled to drive in Stella. Danny Cunningham beat out an infield hit to score Garrido and Abreu singled through the right side to tie the game to drive in Sanchez with the tying run. | Barry 8, Eckerd 8
  • T12: The Tritons pushed across three runs in the top of the 12th. Danny Gutcher and Peter Stavrakos singled with one out off Jake Fishman (3-1). Wike singled to drive in Gutcher and send Stavrakos to third, taking second himself on the throw. Burke followed with a two-run single. | Eckerd 11, Barry 8
  • B12: Barry scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to win. With one out, Abreu singled to left center and Baldo lined a single into center. Noriega pulled a shot through the right side to load the bases. Stella dropped a single down the left field line to score two and chase reliever Taylor Cox (0-2). The Tritons, who used three position players to pitch in the game, brought in first baseman Jake Andriole to face Steven Torres. Torres responded with a single up the middle to tie the game. After Andriole got a strikeout, he walked Sanchez to load the bases again, bringing up Vazquez, who promptly sent a shot into the right center for the walk-off single. | Barry 12, Eckerd 11

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Fishman got the win for the Bucs, despite giving up three runs in the 12th. He allowed four hits and struck out three in two innings of work.
  • Cox took the loss allowing four runs on four hits in 2.1 innings. Andriole face four batters and allowed three of them to reach, including the walk-off for Vazquez.
  • Anthony Bennetti was the pitching hero for the Bucs, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings in relief of Perez, allowing one hit and two walks.
  • Vazquez was 4-for-7 with a homer with three RBI to lead Barry at the plate as the Bucs pounded out a season-high 22 hits.
  • Abreu and Stella each had three hits and scored two runs. Cunningham also had three hits.
  • Noriega was 2-for-7 with a homer and three RBI.  
  • Burke, with four hits, and Ballard, with three, led the Tritons who had 17 hits of their own.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers continue the three-game conference series tomorrow with Eckerd with a twinbill at home at 11 a.m.
