WHAT THEY ARE SAYING:

SUMMARY:

  • T3: Andres Machado and Carrelle Gonzalez hit back-to-back doubles in the third inning to put Barton on top early. | Barton 1, Barry 0
  • B7: The Bucs finally tied it up in the seventh. Joe Stella led off with a single and Yovan Ayes came in to run. After a sacrifice bunt by Steven Torres, Ayes advanced to third on a passed ball by Bulldog catcher Cody Naylor. Jose Tabares came in to pinch hit and roped a single up the middle to knot the game at 1-1. | Barry 1, Barton 1
  • T8: The tie didn't last long, however, as Colby Warren drilled a moonshot to left with two outs in the eighth. | Barton 2, Barry 1
  • B9: The Bucs scored twice in the ninth to walk off with the win. Ihosvany Castaneda lined a homer to left center to lead off the inning and tie the game back up, chasing Bulldog starter Alex Hart after 116 pitches. Kevin Noriega beat out an infield single and Danny Cunningham came on to run. Another sacrifice bunt by Torres moved Cunningham to second and Danny Garcia followed with a single through the left side to put runners on the corners. After Garcia stole second, pinch hitter Sebastian Garrido laced a single up the middle to score Cunningham from third for the win. | Barry 3, Barton 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The two starting pitchers tossed gems, although neither figured in the decision. Both got chased after allowing a home run.
  • Barry starter Arrison Perez went eight innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.
  • Hart pitched into the ninth, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk and struck out six. He set down the first 17 Bucs in a row, before Garcia reached on an error to break up the perfect game. He didn't allow a hit until two outs in the sixth.
  • The Bucs bench came up big in the game, with pinch runners Ayes and Cunningham scoring two of the three runs and pinch hitters Tabares and Garrido driving them in.
  • It was the second walk-off win of the season for the Bucs, with freshman batters coming through both times. Garrido was the hero against Barton, while Brandon Sanchez came through against Palm Beach Atlantic on Feb. 22.
  • Derek Cabrera (2-1) pitched the ninth to get the win for Barry. He hit one batter, but struck out the last two batters with a runner at second.
  • Blake Forney (1-2) took the loss for the Bulldogs. He recorded one out, on the sacrifice by Torres, but gave up hits to the other three batters he faced, including Garrido's game-winner.
