Baseball Loses Home Opener

Bucs fall 14-5 to the Pioneers

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers opened the 2022 season with a 14-5 loss to the Tusculum Pioneers at Feinbloom Field on Friday night.

SUMMARY:

  • T1 - The Pioneers batted around and scored five runs in the first inning. Jaden Steagall capped the inning with a two-run single, while Wes Reynolds and Will Samuelson each drove in one. | Tusculum 5, Barry 0
  • T3 - Tusculum batted around again in the third, scoring five more runs. Zane Keener capped the frame with a bases-clearing double to center. | Tusculum 10, Barry 0
  • T4 - Luis Ezra reached on a Buccaneer error to lead off and Scored on a single by Zach Wilson. Wilson cam around to score on a double down the left-field line by Kyle Williams. | Tusculum 12, Barry 0
  • B4 - Ihosvany Castaneda slapped a out-out single to left. He stole second and went to third on a throwing error by Samuelson. He scored on a wild pitch by Pioneer starter Gunnar Becker. | Tusculum 12, Barry 1
  • B5 - Eddie Javier, Jr. led off with a double to right. Two outs later, he scored on a single by Omar Baldo. Branden Abreu, who had singled before Baldo, scored after Samuelson had a passed ball and then threw it away at third. | Tusculum 12, Barry 3

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Mike Reagan (0-1) was hung with the loss for the Bucs. He allowed eight runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks in two plus innings.
  • Becker (1-0) got the win in the split game, tossing four innings and allowing just one unearned run on three hits and a walk. He struck out six.
  • Abreu went 4-for-5 to lead Barry at the plate. Baldo drove in two of the Bucs five runs.
  • Every Pioneer recorded a hit and scored a run in the game. All but leadoff hitter Rudy Fernandez drove in at least one run. Keener and Steagall each had three RBI.

Barry takes on Washburn at noon on Saturday.
