Men's Basketball Runs Away From Conquistadors

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University Buccaneers men's basketball team opened its 2022-23 campaign with an 81-65 win against visiting University of Fort Lauderdale at the Health & Sports Center on the Buccaneer campus in Miami Shores, Florida.

SUMMARY:

  • 1H - Leading 7-4 with 13:09 left, the Bucs ran off a 12-3 run over thenext five minutes to take a 19-7 lead on a pair of free throws by Jamer Montgomery at 8:45. An Isaiah Washington jumper with 3:15 left gave the Bucs their biggest lead of the half, 33-18. Barry carried a 10-point margin into the break.   • 2H - Despite the Conquistadors hitting a three-pointer right out of the break, Barry pushed the lead to 20 points on a layup by Stanley at the 15:40 mark. With Barry up 54-36, the Bucs ran off a 14-2 run to go up 30, 68-38 on another layin by Stanley at 8:51. The teams traded baskets the rest of the way.  | Barry 91, FNU 61

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Stanley led the Bucs with a career-high 25 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.
  • Amari Haynes also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Nick Anderson chipped in 14 points and Montgomery had 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
  • The Conquistadors only played eight players and only six of them scored, but five reached double figures, led by Ryan Sanchez with 14 points.
  • Barry turned the ball over just six times, the lowest since six against Toccoa Falls on Dec. 21, 2019.
  • The Bucs out-scored FNU 50-26 in the paints, 24-3 off turnovers and 33-18 off the bench.
