TAMPA, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost 75-69 to the 17th-ranked Tampa Spartans on Sunday in the Martinez Center in the Sunshine State Conference women's basketball opener for both teams.

- 1Q - It was a fast start for the Spartans as they jumped out ot a 15-4 lead after the first 5:47 on a jumper by Melijah Sullivan. Barry, though, closed the period on an 8-3 run, with two baskets each from K'Nari Holliday and Chiara Fusari. | Tampa 18, Barry 12
- 2Q - Barry continued their roll, socring the first seven points of the period, for a 15-3 run. The Bucs took their first lead of the game on a three-pointer from Dasiah Thornton with 5:54 left in the frame. With the score tied 24-24, the Spartans scored five straight to take back the lead. - 3Q - Fusari really took over in the third quarter, scoring 14 of the Bucs' 20 points in the period. She tied the game at 34-34 with a three-pointer at 7:45 and trimmed it back to one 48-47, with another at 1:02. | Tampa 50, Barry 47
- 4Q - Fusari gave the Bucs their biggest lead, 60-55, with a three-pointer at 4:35 and gave the Bucs a four-point lead with a jumper at 2:09. But the Spartans out-scored the Bucs 6-2 down the stretch, including a three-point play by Sydney Kins at 1:14, on which Fusari fouled out. Tampa had a layup at the buzzer after a steal and breakaway by Sarah Jones, but she missed it to send the game to overtime. | Tampa 67, Barry 67
- 1OT - Without Fusari in the overtime, the Bucs managed just one basket, a jumper by Jeannie Scott while the Spartans scored eight, including 4-for-4 from the line. | Tampa 75, Barry 69
NOTEWORTHY:
- Fusari scored a career-high 34 points, breaking the mark of 32 she set last year against Florida Tech (Jan. 12).
- She also tied the team lead with seven rebounds with Signe Glantz.
- Kin led the Spartans with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Mya Giusto added 21.
- Barry out-scored Tampa 34-30 in the paint and 46-0 off the bench, thanks to Fusari's 34. But Tampa out-shot the Bucs at the free throw line 21-3, as they were whislted for just eight fouls to 23 for the Bucs, with both Fusari and Ashleigh Pink fouling out.
