Women's Basketball Loses To Lakers

Bucs battle to the end, but come up short

MORROW, Ga. -- The Barry Buccaneers women's basketball team came up short against Clayton State University in a regional women's basketball game at the The Loch on Monday after a morning (11 a.m.) tip-off.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q -  Barry led 5-2 early in the first period, but Clayton State had an 11-7 lead with 3:03 left on a three-pointer by Jadah Waite. Barry scored the next two baskets, on fastbreak layups by K'Nari Holliday and Jeannie Scott to tie it up.   • 2Q -  Barry had a rough shooting period in the second, hitting just 3-of-11 from the field as the Lakers built an 11-point lead at the half. | Clayton State 36, Barry 25
  • 3Q -  After the Buccaneers trimmed the lead to four, 36-32 early in the third, the Lakers went on a tear and extended the lead to 14. on a pair of free throws by Diamond Swift with just under two minutes to play.   • 4Q -  Barry came out quickly, extending their streak to 18-5 to cut the lead to one, 58-57, on a Camilla Flefil three-pointer with 5:14 left to play. The Lakers push the lead back to eight, 68-60, as Taniya Patrick had a layup with 0:30 seconds left. That would be the last basket for Clayton State as Barry closed with a fury. Reagan Jackson and Flefil hit triples and Ashleigh Pink hit 1-of-2 from the line. Meanwhile the Lakers went 2-for-4 from the line, giving Barry a shot to tie at the end, but Jackson's buzzer-beater was off and CSU held on for the win. | Clayton State 70, Barry 67

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Dasiah Thornton came off the bench to lead the Bucs with 14 points, hitting 4-for-7 from three-point range. 
  • Flefil added 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting from long-range and Pink chipped in 11 and a team-best seven boards and three assists.
  • Laylah Davis led CSU with 21 points. Swift added 14 points and Patrick had 11.
  • Barry got 36 points off the bench to just nine for the Lakers.
  • Rebounds were tied 35-35, but Barry led 14-11 on the offensive boards, leading to a 15-7 edge in second-chance points.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry opens Sunshine State Conference play at Tampa this weekend.
