MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Buccaneer women's basketball team will get the 2022-23 season started with an exhibition game at the NCAA Division I Miami Hurricanes on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6:00 pm at the Watsco Center.

The Bucs, who were picked fifth in the Sunshine State Conference pre-season poll, are coming off an 16-10 campaign that saw them advance to the SSC Tournament semifinals.

The Buccaneers are led by all-conference guard junior Chiara Fusari, who averaged 9.6 points per game last season. In 2020-21, she was a Second-Team All-SSC selection after leading the team at 12.9 points per game. Senior guard Ashia Pool chipped in 7.1 points and 2.7 assists, while senior forward Ashleigh Pink added 5.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

The Bucs have a bevy of talented newcomers, led by transfers Reagan Jackson, Lidsey Mahoukou, Ana Gascon and Signe Glantz.

The Hurricanes were picked to finish sixth by the ACC head coaches and Blue Ribbon Panel, after going 21-13 last year and advancing to the ACC title game. Miami finished the 2021-22 season tied for seventh in the league with Boston College and Florida State but made a remarkable run in the ACC Tournament to go head-to-head with NC State in the title game.

The 'Canes look to be lead by newcomer point guard Haley Cavinder, the Mountain West Player of the Year at Fresno State in 2021-22 after leading the Bulldogs with 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest. Cavinder was named to the Nancy Lieberman Watch List, which recognizes the top point guards in women's college basketball. Miami returns three starters, inlcuding 6-4 senior Lola Pandande, 6-0 graduate student Destiny Harden and 5-9 sophomore Ja'Leah Williams.
