LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Barry Volleyball's Diana Akopova is the GameChanger/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week, for the week of Oct. 3 - Oct. 9.
The award is the second of the week for Akopova, after being awarded the SSC Player of the Week on Monday.
Akopova helped Barry to two victories on the week, highlighted by a monster match at Palm Beach Atlantic. In the five-set win, she had a career-best 36 kills and added 39.5 points, which is the second most in Barry history for a match. She added 23 kills and hit .526 in the sweep of Florida Southern.
Akopova becomes the sixth Barry player to be named National Player of the Week. The other five players were Mickisha Hurley (Oct. 10, 1994), Sonia Gubaidulina (Oct. 2, 1995), Simone Ferrarezi (Nov. 5, 2001), Julia Teixeira (Sept. 28, 2010) and Megi Buvinic (Oct. 16, 2018).
This upcoming weekend, Barry travels to Hoover, Ala., to compete in the South Region Crossover inside the Finley Center. The Bucs will play a total of three matches, their first match is set for Friday, Oct. 14, against Auburn-Montgomery at 5:45 p.m CDT.
