Baseball Salvages Split With Moccasins

Bucs take the series 2-1

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers bounced back from a game one loss to beat the Florida Southern Moccasins in the rubber game of the series and win the series two games to one. Barry lost the first game 15-4, but came back to take the nightcap 11-2 in Sunshine State Conference baseball action from Henley Field on Saturday.

GAME ONE

  • B1 - Vaun Brown hit a leadoff homer. | FSC 1, Barry 0
  • T2 - Richie Sobalvarro singled to center and advanced on an error by Brown. After a single by Ariel Diaz put runners on the corner, Sobalvarro scored on a double steal. | Barry 1, FSC 1
  • B3 - The Mocs staged a two-out rally in the third. Barry starter Mike Reagan was a strike away from getting out of the inning with no damage. But Conner Berry singled up the middle and Chad Schissler walked. After a passed ball, Zach Scott bounced a single up the middle to drive in two runs. | FSC 3, Barry 1
  • T4 - Barry sent eight men to the plate in the fourth. Ihosvany Casteneda singled through the left side and stole second. Sobalvarro blooped a single to right, sending Casteneda to third. JC Garcia ripped a ground ball double through the left side to score Casteneda.   • B8 - Florida Southern posted four more in the eighth. Wells doubled to lead off and Raffaele walked. Pinch-hitter Austin Blair blooped a singled to right and Wells scored when right-fielder Torres threw the ball away at third.   • T4 - Omar Baldo singled to left to lead off the inning. Derek Smolenski followed with a base hit to right that Wells misplayed for a two-base error, allowing Baldo to score. Although Smolenski was cut down at the plate, Branden Abreu, who reached on the play, stole second and scored on a single by Andrew Rapoza. | Barry 4, FSC 1
  • T5 - The Bucs sent 10 men to the plate and scored four runs. Casteneda walked and Sobalvarro doubled to score one run. Garcia had a single to left that move Sobalvarro to third. Baldo followed with an RBI single to score Sobalvarro and Garcia took third, with Baldo going to second on the throw. Blake Brito drove in two runs with a base hit to left. | Barry 8, FSC 1
  • T6 - After the Bucs loaded the bases on two walks and single by Smolenski, Brito was hit by reliever Mark Pelaez to force in Garcia. | Barry 9, FSC 1

  • T7 - Rapoza drew a lead off walk and went to secong on a wild pitch. Casteneda came through with an RBI double and later scored on a single by Baldo. | Barry 11, FSC 2

NOTES:

  • Arrison Perez (4-1) picked up the win in the nightcap. He worked six innings, scattering 10 hits and allowing two runs. He struck out six and did not walk a batter. 
  • Thomas Spinelli (0-2) took the loss for the Mocs. He worked four innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks.
  • Jarod Cande (4-0) earned the win with 7.2 innings in the first game. He scattered 10 hits, allowing four runs (two earned). He walked one and struck out eight.
  • Mike Reagan (1-2) took the loss for the Bucs. He surrendered five runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings. 
  • Casteneda went 5-for-9, including a double and homer, and scored five runs in the twinbill.
  • Garcia was 4-for-7, adding a double and three runs.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs play at Lynn on Friday, Apr. 30 in the first game of another SSC series.
