Bucs drop both games of the doubleheader

DAVIE, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost a pair of Sunshine State Conference baseball games to the Nova Southeastern Sharks 5-4 and 4-1 on Saturday at the NSU Baseball Field.

GAME ONE:

  • B1 - The Sharks got on the board first in game one. Andrew Labosky singled with one out and scored on a single by Alex Hernandez | NSU 1, Barry 0
  • B2 - Adam Smith drew a lead off walk and scored ahead of Stephen Schissler's two-run homer. | NSU 3, Barry 0
  • T3 - The Bucs tied the game in the third. Omar Baldo walked and Blake Brito followed with a single to center. After a sacrifice, Willie Escala hit a ground ball to second, allowing Baldo to score and Escala reached on an error by NSU's Alejandro Macario. Ihosvany Casteneda singled off the pitcher's leg to score Brito and Escala came home on a ground out. | Barry 3, NSU 3
  • B3 - The Sharks regained the lead in the bottom of the frame with a two-out rally. Macario singled and Schissler followed with an RBI double to right center. | NSU 4, Barry 3

GAME TWO:

  • B3 - The Sharks broke through in the third off Barry starter Arrison Perez. Labosky reached on an infield single and Adan Fernandez walked. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Labosky scored on a ground out. Fernandez came home on an error. | NSU 2, Barry 0
  • B6 - Macario walked and stole second, moving to third on a throwing error. Schissler also walked and stole second. Macario scored on a fly ball by Labosky and Schissler came in on a wild pitch by reliever Anthony Boix. | NSU 4, Barry 0
  • T7 - A two-out rally in the seventh got the Bucs on the board. Ariel Diaz walked and David Vazquez and Derek Smolenski followed with singles to plate the run. | NSU 4, Barry 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Erislandy Rives (1-1) took the loss in game one for the Bucs. He allowed a run on three walks in two innings.
  • Perez took the loss in game two, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks in 5.0 innings, while striking out six.
  • JP Williams (2-0) earned the game one win for the Sharks and Brady Acker (1-3) got the win in game two. Carlos Rey earned the game-two save.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs visit Lynn on Wednesday, Apr. 21 in a non-conference game.
