Baseball Splits Twinbill With Rollins

Bucs take game one 8-4, but lose game two 5-4

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The sixth-ranked Barry Buccaneers split a Sunshine State Conference baseball twinbill with the Rollins Tars on Saturday at Alfond Stadium in Winter Park, Fla. Barry won game one 8-4, but dropped the nightcap 5-4.

GAME ONE:

  • T1 - Willie Escala singled, stole secons, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a base hit from Richie Sobalvarro. | Barry 1, Rollins 0
  • B2 - Cody Oerther knotted the game at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly. | Barry 1, Rollins 1
  • B3 - Nick Santucci put the Tars ahead with a two-oout homer. | Rollins 2, Barry 1
  • T4 - JC Garcia knocked in Sobalvarro with a single and later scored ahead of a basehit by Mike Fernandez. | Barry 3, Rollins 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Frank II Gonzalez (2-0) pitched 5.2 innings in the opener, allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out six and did not walk a batter for the second straight start.
  • Mike Reagan worked the final 3.1 innings, giving up just a run on two hits, to earn his first career save. He also struck out six without issuing a walk.
  • Tate Stone Frisina (0-1) took the loss for the Tars. He allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings. He struck out five. 
  • Anthony Boix (0-1) took the loss in game two, allowing four runs on two hits, a hit batsman and three walks in two-thirds of an inning.
  • Kyle Kramer (1-0) was gifted the win after allowing two runs on three hits and a walk in the seventh inning. 
  • Garcia was 3-for-7 in the doubleheader, knocking in four runs. He also scored twice and stole two bases.
  • Sobalvarro went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
  • Santucci went 3-for-7 with a double, two solo homers and two RBI to lead the Tars. Oerther drove in three runs.

The Bucs are now off until a Mar. 24 date with Nova Southeastern.
