Esports Won a Pair of Tournaments

These victories mark the first in program history

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. –  The Barry U e-sports official collegiate Call of Duty squad participated and won in a pair of tournaments for the newly released Call of Duty Vanguard over the weekend. 

Meet the Barry U Call of Duty E-sports Squad: 

Robert Diaz - Sophomore
Thomas Osvold - Freshman
Theodore Vu - Sophomore
Zachery Silva - Freshman 

The primary game mode this squad plays is Search and Destroy, For those who are not familiar, this is a one-sided game mode, the goal is for an attacking side to either eliminate the defending team or detonate either one of two bomb sites. Players only get one life per round, with most versions of the mode going to a best-of-seven rounds.  

College XP - Opening day Search and Destroy Tournament:

The newest installment to the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Vanguard, dropped on Nov. 5, which in turn kicked off the regular season of weekly tournaments for a variety of eSports leagues.

The Barry Buccaneers wasted no time entering the best-of-three matches, double elimination tournament in the College Xp league on Friday. 

The Bucs started off the day in a automatic spot in the second round by defeating Texas Tech 2-1 and advancing into the third round of the winner's bracket.

In the second round, Barry got swept out by Penn State 2-0, sending the Bucs in the loser's bracket, where they battled back to beat Wayne State 1-0, Texas A&M 1-0, Waterloo 1-0, Texas State 1-0, and Chattanooga 1-0 to win the loser's bracket and earned an opportunity to face the winner of the top bracket. 

The Bucs faced Georgia Southern in the final having to defeat the Eagles twice while facing single elimination. The Bucs went on to win 2-1, 2-1 in both matches to claim the title.

Amateur eSports League - Vanguard Kickoff Search and Destroy Tournament: 

The Bucs looked to continue were they left off the day before and entered into another best-of-three matches, double elimination tournament in the Amateur eSports League. 

The Barry Buccaneers started their climb to the top by sweeping the NPS Island Boys 3-0 in the first round. 

Barry defeated Cloud Blue 2-0, Fuego eSports 2-1, Eclipse Gaming 2-0 to win the top bracket but the day was not over as they had to face the winner of the loser's bracket.

In the grand finals, Barry swept Akron Zips 3-0 in a best-of-five match to claim their second title of the weekend.   

ON THE HORIZON: 

BarryU esports look to take another crown this weekend as they enter in to week two of the College Xp on Friday November 12 at 8:00pm.
