To kick off the weekend, Esports hosted The Barry University/Miami-Dade League of Legends Invitational, the first high school tournament hosted in program history. Eight league of legends Esports teams from high schools from the Miami-Dade area participated in the event with the first-place team winning $50 worth of Riot Points and $25 worth of Riot Points to the second.

 The event was streamed over on Barry Esports official Twitch channel, recording the highest numbers in program history so far. With over six and a half hours streamed, the channel averaged 63 viewers, with a high of 111 max concurrent viewers, 438 unique views in total, and gained 140 new followers over nearly 25,000 total minutes watched. The chat showed great engagement throughout the stream, with over 1,000 messages.
Miami Central High was the star team of the field. The team ran through their competition to reach the grand finals where they faced the winner of the losers bracket, G. Holmes Braddock High. Miami Central remained undefeated, capturing victory with a smooth win in the grand finals.
A trio of MVP awards were handed out for in the invitational:
- Sugo won the Most Consistent Award, because of their constant applied pressure to the map.
- RainSauce shared the Opportunity Maker honors for creating massive opportunities on Blitz and Pyke for their team to win.
- HaloGuy205, with the most skillshot accuracy throughout the tournament, earned the crowd favorite award.
Barry University's Esports program will look to continue to grow our numbers and is eager to host more tournaments in the near future, whether by more League of Legends events or other titles.
Rodriguez earns FIFA21 award
Also over the weekend, Esports FIFA player Bryan Rodriguez finished his first season of FIFA21, he ranked in eighth-place overall out of 77 contenders from universities from all over the country. Rodriguez pulled off some impressive victories over contenders from schools like University of Houston, the University of Illinois, and Irvine Valley College to name a few. Rodriguez looks to sharpen his FIFA skills for the upcoming season.
