MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--Barry University head athletic trainer Matt Santos-Vitorino has been named to two advisory boards at the national and state level.

"Honestly, I'm just honored to be asked to work with these two outstanding groups," Santos-Vitorino said. "I cannot wait to be able to give back to my profession and meet others who have the same passion for athletic training that I do. I hope to learn things along the way that I can bring back to the university to improve our athletic training department and be able to provide even more care for our student-athletes. I am humbled to be asked to do something like this and I'm very excited for the year or years ahead of me."

Santos-Vitorino was asked to join the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) – Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine (ICSM) as the Division II Region 2 representative. The ICSM Division II Subcommittee addresses issues affecting the student athlete and athletic trainers in Division II collegiate institutions. The subcommittee helps identify relevant and timely issues in the field of athletic training and brings those issues forward so the committee can collaborate with various organizing bodies of collegiate and intercollegiate athletics to improve student-athlete safety, well-being and healthcare by influencing policy and providing resources.

He also serves on the state level as a member for the Athletic Trainers Association of Florida: College & Universities Athletic trainer Committee. This committee serves to connect ATCs from the higher education settings and provide them with resources to better their sports medicine programs throughout the state.

Additionally, he has been a member of the ATAF Honors & Awards Committee for the past two years.

Santos-Vitorino joined the Buccaneer staff as the assistant athletic trainer in March of 2016 and was promoted to head athletic trainer in August of 2019. He has worked with nine teams who have won NCAA Division II National Championships and 16 Sunshine State Conference titles.

Santos-Vitorino received his undergraduate degree in athletic training form Lasell University in 2008. He earned a master's degree from Barry University in injury sport biomechanics in 2010. His graduate work was published in the Lower Extremity Review in February of 2012.
