MIAMI SHORES, Fla.-- Volleyball's Anastasiia Samokhvalova was named the Dr. George Wanko Junior Student of the Year at the Office of Mission & Student Engagement virtual award show on Tuesday.
Samokhvalova serves as captain on the Barry Volleyball Team, and is a All-American middle blocker. She is involved in many community service activities and a double major in accounting and finance. She tutors at Sibley Elementary, is a member of the Student Managed Investment Fund and volunteers on Saturdays to prepare Tax Forms for those in the community that need assistance.
The Dr. George Wanko Award for the outstanding junior is awarded in honor of Dr. George Wanko, who served as Vice President for Student Affairs from 1978-1999, and was selected to the Barry University Wall of Honor in 2000. Dr. Wanko was the first athletic administrator responsible for intercollegiate athletics at Barry. The award is given for outstanding service and leadership.
