Softball Splits Double-Header at Home with East Stroudsburg

The loss in game two marks the first loss against ESU in program history

MIAMI SHORES, FLA. -- The Buccaneers split their double-header against East Stroudsburg at Buccaneer Field on Saturday afternoon in a tale of two games. In game one, Barry dropped the Warriors 9-0 in five innings after the run rule took effect. In game two, a softball game broke out, with the Bucs falling 6-2.

SUMMARY:
Game One

  • B1 -  Barry opened the innings with back-to-back singles from Courtney Chisholm and Taylor Checkley. Thanks to an ESU error, Chisholm ended up on third and later scored on the next at-bat when Berlin Colvin grounded out to score Chisholm. On the same play, Checkley would score as well after another ESU error. Later in the inning, the Bucs loaded the bases and score two more when Ayana Andrade-Zygmunt was hit by a pitch and Savannah Starling singled through the left side. The Warriors would make a pitching change before Chisholm ended the inning striking out | Barry 4, ESU 0
  • B4 - The Bucs scored five more runs on five hits to end the game early on a run rule. A two-run double by Peyton Rawls and RBI double by Colvin highlighted the inning. Kayla Posten also chipped in with an RBI single. 

SUMMARY:
Game Two 

  • T1 - Warriors freshman Katherine Donaghue hit her first home run of the season for ESU off Bucs starting pitcher Jordanna Hartley | ESU 2, Barry 0
  • T2 - ESU picked up another run in back-to-back innings on an RBI single. Hartley struggled to find the strike zone, giving up two walks in the inning | ESU 3, Barry 0
  • B3 - With runners on first and third and Hartley at the plate for the Bucs, coach Cotter called a double-steal giving Barry their first run of the game when Payton Germer slid past the catchers tag | ESU 3, Barry 1
  • B5 - Barry put runners on second and third with one out and Checkley at the plate. Cotter attempted a double-steal again, but this time Erin Scanlon was thrown out at home plate. Checkley would single with Chisholm still at second, and an ESU error allowed her to score | ESU 3, Barry 2
  • B7 - After walking the Warriors lead off batter, Hartley was replaced with Cassandra Lee. Hartley gave up a run in the first and second inning, but went the next four innings without allowing an ESU run. The Warriors extended their lead with three runs on one hit | ESU 6, Barry 2
NOTEWORTHY:
  • The loss in game two marks the first loss to East Stroudsburg in the programs history.  
  • Sarah Johnson is now 4-0 on the season, shutting-out opponents in the last 15 innings pitched. 

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will continue their eight game home stand on Sunday, February 9th in double-header action against Georgian Court University. Game one is set for 11am.
