Johnson's 10 Scoreless Innings Lead Softball in DH Sweep Over Washburn

The Bucs freshman pitcher threw 10 consecutive scoreless innings in games one and two combined

MIAMI SHORES, FLA. -- The Buccaneers took two games from the Washburn Ichabods on Thursday in their regular season home opener on Buccaneer Field. The Bucs won game one 8-7 and walked-off in game two when Berlin Colvin hit a line-drive back up the middle to score Karla Santiago and beat the Ichabods 1-0.

SUMMARY:
Game One

  • T1 - The Ichabods opened up the scoring right away on the Bucs' starting pitcher Jordanna Hartley with a double to left-center  WU 1, Barry 0
  • B1 - The Bucs answered right back after Taylor Checkley singled with Courtney Chisholm on first. Chisholm would score on the play with the Ichabods committing two errors | WU 1, Barry 1
  • B2 - The back-and-forth affair continued as the Bucs were down 3-1 until Peyton Rawls hit her first home run of the season to dead center field with Kayla Posten on first base. The Bucs would load the bases and chase WU's starting pitcher out of the game. Checkley's ground ball plated Hartley to give Barry their first lead of the game | Barry 4, WU 3
  • B3 - After a four run inning by Washburn in the third removed Hartley from the game, Barry looked to get runners on. Payton Germer led the inning with a walk and Posten reached on a throwing error by the third basemen. A huge two run double by Michelle Roldan cut the Ichabod lead to one | WU 7, Barry 6
  • T4 - Cassandra Lee replaced Hartley in the circle and retied four of the five batters she faced | WU 7, Barry 6
  • B4 - Posten's two RBI single up the middle put Barry ahead and set the table for Sarah Johnson to check into the game and earn her first save of the season | Barry 8, WU 7

SUMMARY:
Game Two 

  • B1 - With runners on second and third and no outs, Berlin Colvin came up to bat and reached on a fielders choice when WU's shortstop fired home to gun down Chisholm trying to take home. Checkley who was on second, advanced to third on the play when Colvin drew a throw at second but Checkley was later thrown out at home plate.  | WU 0, Barry 0
  • B7 - Colvin recorded her second walk-off hit of the season with the bases loaded to give the Buccaneers their third straight win and forth in five games | Barry 1, WU 0
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Johnson recorded her first complete game shutout of the year in game two throwing seven innings while only allowing three hits. She threw 10 consecutive scoreless innings in the two games against Washburn. 
  • The game two final is only the third 1-0 victory for the Bucs since 2015. 

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will continue their eight game home stand on Saturday, February 8th in double-header action against East Stroudsburg University. Game one is set for 1pm.
