Women's Basketball Sinks Sailfish

Bucs take down Palm Beach Atlantic by 12

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers sank the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 54-42 in a big Sunshine State Conference women's basketball win on Cesar Odio Court Wednesday night.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - After a lead change and two ties, Barry took the lead for good on a layup by Nerea Baena at the 4:28 mark. A floater by Harriet Swindells with 0:05 seconds left, pushed the lead to seven at the quarter break. | Barry 14, PBA 7
  • 2Q - The Sailfish chopped into the lead in the second quarter, closing to 17-15 on a pair of free throws by Sia Williams with 6:24 left. Barry, though, used a 6-0 run, as Baena scored twice and dished off to Fusari for a layup, to push the lead to their biggest of the half, 23-15.   • 3Q - Barry jumped all over the 'Fish to start the third quarter. Emma Hergot, who had shot just 1-for-5 in the first half, hit her first three shots of the second half, the last a jumper that gave Barry an 11-point lead, 33-22. Barry led by eight at the break. | Barry 42, PBA 34
  • 4Q Chiara Fusari hit a layup on a brilliant backdoor cut to give Barry their biggest lead of the game, 49-36, at the 6:53 mark and the Sailfish got no closer than nine the rest of the way. | Barry 54, PBA 42

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Hergot led the Bucs with 12 points, shooting 5-of-8 in the second half, and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
  • Baena narrowly missed one of her own, finishing with 11 points and nine boards.
  • Swindells added 10 points.
  • Williams led the Sailfish with 11 points, but shot just 3-of-10 from the floor. Claire Bady chipped in 10. Kennedi Rodgers led all players with 12 rebounds.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs travel to Rollins on Saturday, Feb. 15.
