Germer Homers Again as Softball Splits DH with Flagler

Payton Germer hit a home run in consecutive games going back to yesterdays win over Georgia Southwestern State

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. -- The Buccaneers went 2-2 at the Flagler Invitational this weekend after splitting a double-header against the host Flagler College Saints on Saturday. Barry dropped game one 5-1, but was able to come away .500 for the weekend after beating the Saints 7-3 in game two. Bucs starting pitcher Sarah Johnson went 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA in St. Augustine, throwing a pair of complete games with five strikeouts against the Saints in game two on Saturday.

SUMMARY:
Game One

  • B1 - Hartley struggled in th first inning allowing four runs on five hits, but the freshman put the inning behind her and proceeded to hold the Saints scoreless in the next four innings. seven of her first eight batters in the game before running into trouble in the third inning giving up two runs on two hits | FLG 4, Barry 0
  • B6 - Flagler picked up an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to center field after Hartley gave up a double  | FLG 5, Barry 0
  • T6 - Payton Germer homered for the second consecutive game to give the Buccaneers their lone run in the game | FLG 5, Barry 1

SUMMARY:
Game Two 

  • B4 - Johnson retired nine straight Saints' batters in a pitchers duel until Flagler scored the first run of the game with a home run to center field | FLG 1, Barry 0
  • T5 - Courtney Chisholm, Taylor Checkley and Berlin Colvin each singled for the Buccaneers to load the bases with no outs. That set the table for one of the Bucs' hottest hitters. Germer singled to center field, scoring two. The Saints' center fielder misplayed the bal and allowed Germer to take second and Cassandra Lee who was pinch running for Colvin advance to third. Kayla Posten reached on a fielders choice, driving in Lee. On the very next at-bat Germer stole home to cap the four run inning for the Bucs  | Barry 4, FLG 1
  • T7 - After giving up another run to the Saints, Barry was looking for some more offense. After Payton Germer started the inning with a walk, Posten crushed a stand up double to left center field. The Saints gave Barry a run on an airmailed throw to first allowing Posten to score. Michelle Roldan drove in a run on a ground ball | Barry 7, FLG 2
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Payton Germer was on fire this weekend going 7-for-11 with two home runs and five RBI. 
  • Chisholm went 8-for-15 during the tournament with three runs scored and two stolen bases. 
  • Johnson struck out nine in 12 innings of work, going 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA. 

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will head back to The Shores for an eight game home stand that begins on Thursday, February 6th in double-header action against Washburn University. Game one is set for 5pm.
