Women's Basketball Falls In Final Minute To Sharks

Nova-Southeastern captured a 70-66 victory over the Bucs.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Buccaneers women's basketball team battled to the last minute against the Nova Southeastern Sharks but came up just short, falling 70-66 on Wednesday, in Sunshine State Conference action on Cesar Odio Court.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - Barry bolted in front early as Harriet Swindells keyed a 9-0 run to put the BUcs up 11-4. But with the Bucs leading 18-11, the Sharks hit back-to-back three-pointers to trim the lead to one at the break. | Barry 18, NSU 17
  • 2Q - Barry led 23-19 with 7:19 in the frame. The Sharks went on a 7-0 run to take a 26-23 lead. Barry closed to 28-27 on a layup by Emma Hergot, but the Sharks scored the last five points of the half. | NSU 33, Barry 27
  • 3Q - The Bucs battled back to take the lead in the third quarter, 41-39, on back-to-back baskets from Nerea Baena with 5:21 to go. After NSU regained the lead with a 5-0 run, with all five points coming from the line, Barry went on a 9-3 surge to go up 52-49.   • 4Q - The fourth quarter went back and forth with four ties and five lead changes. After NSU went up 64-61, Barry scored five straight points on a trey by Chiara Fusari and a jumper from Swindells to regain the lead 66-64 with 1:14 remaining. But Barry missed their last two shots and the Sharks made their last two to surge to a late win. | NSU 70, Barry 66

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Swindells scored a game-high 27, missing her career high by just two points (29 vs. Findlay on Dec. 21).
  • Baena added 15 points for the Bucs.
  • Jordan Tully led the Sharks with 21 points. Conley added 18 and a team-high six rebounds.
  • Despite Barry out-shooting the Sharks 49.1 to 45.3 percent, the Sharks out-scored the Bucs by three from three-points range and by five from the line, as they took almost twice as many shots from the stripe.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry travels to Florida Southern on Saturday to face the Lady Mocs in Jenkins Fieldhouse.
