MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--Another exciting slate of games are on tap for the Barry University women's basketball team for the 2019-20 season, as head coach Bill Sullivan has announced their schedule for the upcoming year.
The Buccaneers return a solid core of players, including point guard Nichel Tampa, who led the team in scoring, assists and steals. Guards Harriet Swindells and Ashleigh Pink and posts Emma Hergot and Carly Sanders are also back. The team had eight newcomers as well who bring exciting potential, including junior college transfers Nerea Baena and Johanna Kampp.
"After playing one of the toughest NCAA schedules in the nation last year, our BarryU women's basketball team once again has a very strong 2019-20 game schedule," Sullivan said. "We know the Sunshine State Conference is always extremely competitive and we have added several challenging non-conference teams including two perennial Top-20 D-II powers, Union University from Tennessee and the University of Alaska-Anchorage. Our players are working hard and we're all excited for this season to begin."
In addition to the 10 home Sunshine State Conference games, the Bucs host Alaska-Anchorage and Daemen at the Cesar Odio Thanksgiving Classic and a return visit from cross-town rival Florida National in February.
On the road, the Bucs play at Delta State along with the SSC slate. Barry plays Union (Tenn.) in Cleveland, Miss., as part of the SSC/GSC Challenge, and Findlay and Ohio Dominican at the Nova Southeastern Holiday Classic.
The Bucs have 14 games against teams who finished the season in their respective regional polls. They have six games, including the matchup with #7 Alaska-Anchorage, against teams in the Top-25.
