MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Christy Grimshaw and Molly Sharpe joined a select group of Barry Alumni this summer, signing contracts to play for two professional football clubs in Europe and adding to the list of former Bucs who have gone pro in their respective sports. Grimshaw is set to join FC Metz who competes in France's Ligue 1, while Sharpe joins Durham W.F.C in Northern England.
Grimshaw joins FC Metz fresh off a SSC Player-of-the-Year campaign with the Buccaneers. The Scottish footballer tallied 31 goals and 19 assists in her career highlighted by six game-winning goals in her senior season. The four-time All-SSC midfielder credited Bucs head coach Sarah Dacey as a major influence on her path to professional football.
"Having Sarah as a coach prepared me to become a professional," Grimshaw said. "She knew how to get the best out of me and prepared me mentally for any challenge I would face going pro, She made me work so hard and taught me that you cannot be successful if you do not do the things you can control yourself, such as effort and work ethic."
Sharpe returns to her native country after signing with Durham where she will compete in her backyard in Northern England. Sharpe was Grimshaw's partner up top for the Bucs and recorded 14 goals and 13 assists in 2018, capturing the SSC Offensive Player of the Year award in the process.
"Barry was very professional with the way we went about training," Sharpe said, "competing at a high-level in games, and with what we did off the field. We also trained to our full potential everyday which made me a better and more fit player at the end of my collegiate career."
