CLEVELAND – The Barry Buccaneers, with three national championships, finished 14th in final NCAA Division II Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup standings for 2018-19.
Barry claimed NCAA Division II National Championships in men's soccer, men's tennis and women's tennis in 2018-19. It is the first time that the Bucs have won three titles in a single academic year, with each earning 100 points. After second round exits by women's soccer and volleyball (50 points each), men's and women's golf both tied for fifth (earning 72.75 points each).
Barry was also one of only two institutions, and the only private school, to finish in the Top-25 of the Director's Cup and also earn the President's Award for Academic Excellence for an Academic Success Rate over 90 percent. UC San Diego, who finished second in the Director's Cup, was the other.
Barry's 545.5 points placed them sixth among private institutions and second in the Sunshine State Conference. The SSC, which won seven national titles out of the 25 for the division, had five schools in the top 26, led by Tampa at 12 and Barry at 14.
The Bucs' best ever finish came in 1997-98 when they placed third overall and were the highest ranked private institution. They were also the highest ranked private school in 2001-02 (11th overall).
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.
Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's website at www.directorscup.org.
