Women's Tennis Wins Over Golden Eagles In NCAA First Round

Bucs dispatch Charleston in less than two hours

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Two-time defending champion and top-seeded Barry made short work of the Charleston (W.Va.) Golden Eagles 4-0 in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Division II National Tournament at Sanlando Park on Wednesday.

The Bucs, who are seeking their fifth overall title, took care of the upstart Golden Eagles, making their first NCAA Finals appearance, in less than two hours.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Buccaneers will play in the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 11th time in the past 12 years.
  • Barry beat Azusa Pacific 4-0 on Mar. 9, but played the match without Schmid or Barrere in singles.
  • It was the Bucs first-ever win over Charleston.
  • The win at #3 for Engelmann was her fourth 6-0, 6-0 win this season. She is 17-1 overall, the most singles wins on the team.
  • The Bucs won the doubles point for the 23rd time this season. They lost the point against Lynn and Nova Southeastern in their only two losses.
