MIAMI SHORES, FLA. -- Barry University Athletics hosted the Fourth Annual Bucky Awards on Wednesday, May 1st in the Broad Auditorium.
The Bucs celebrated the past year's (April 1, 2018Â through April 1, 2019) accomplishments of the student-athletes with awards for Most Improved Athlete, Best Play, Newcomer of the Year, Best Game, Career Achievement, Barry Unity. Additionally, the Strong Man/Woman Awards, the Sister Jeanne O'Laughlin Service Award, the Athletic Training Student of the Year, Male & Female Athletes of the Year and the Professor Neill Miller Scholar-Athletes of the Year were awarded.

Starter as a junior as Barry went 9-3-2 and lost in the semifinals of the SSC Tournament … Had three goals and three assists for nine points … Named Second Team All-SSC … As a senior, led the Bucs to a 16-1-1 record, SSC regular season and tournament championships … Scored 14 goals and a conference-best 13 assists for 41 points … 15th in the nation in points per game and fourth in the nation in assists per game … First-Team All-SSC … SSC Offensive Player of the Year … Third-Team All-American by the CCA and Second-Team Academic All-American by CoSIDA. |

Tied 2-2 in penalty kicks in the national semifinal against Fort Hays State, Sordi baited Wildcat kicker Cisse Abdoulaye by leaning to his left then blocked the shot with a kick save to the right ... The Bucs went on to win the shootout 5-4 and advance to the national championship match. |

Barry went on the road to defeat perennial conference powerr Tampa 3-1 ... It was the first win over Tampa since 2008 and the first win at Tampa since 2004 ... The win helped propel the Bucs to the regular-season championship in the SSC and secured the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, their first trip in ight years ... Megi Buvinic had 24 kills, Bianca Pasca had 45 assists and Audren Rosee totaled 31 digs as the Bucs held Tampa to a .166 hitting percentage. |

Melissa Cyd was named the Athletic Training Student of the Year, while Graduate Assistant Frank Gonzalez won the Sister Jeanne O'Laughlin Service Award. The Strong Man Award went to Tylan Birts from men's basketball and the Strong Woman was women's soccer's Nicole Rafols
The Professor Neill Miller Scholar-Athletes of the Year went to Johanna Voss from the Volleyball team and Daniel Ventura of men's tennis.
Tilda Larsson took home the Female Athlete of the year award. She is three-time First-Team WGCA All-American and Scholar All-American 11 career wins, almost 4x more than second-place. Three-time First-Team, All-SSC 2016 National co-Freshman of the Year, 2016 SSC Freshman of the Year and co-Golfer of the Year 2017. She led the Bucs to win the National Championship for the first time in women's golf history at Barry. 18' WGCA National Player of the Year SSC Player of the Year. Ranked #1 player by GolfStat in 2018 and ranked third in the nation by GolfStat in 2019. Has finished top-5 in four of seven tournaments. Qualified for the Augusta National Women's Amateur, the only Division II golfer to make the field.
Jorge Garcia and Fran Greco were named co-winners of the Male Athlete of the year award. Greco Led the team to Barry to first-ever National Championship in men's soccer. He scored six goals and added a team-high eight assists (second in the conference). Was named the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-SSC, First-Team All-South Region by the CCA, Second-Team All-Region by the United Soccer Coaches, Third-Team All-American by the CCA and the Most Outstanding Offensive Player at the National Championship. He assisted on the game-tying goal in the championship match and had three game-winning goals, all of them coming in overtime.
Garcia is Currently the #1 ranked golfer in Division II and had four tournament wins this season, ranking second in school history to Adam Svensson. In 27 rounds this season, he has a 69.48 stroke average (-1.96 to par), which would be a school record. 24 of his 27 rounds this season are par or better, including 15 rebounds in the 60s. Finish percentage of 97.9 is also on pace to be a school record. He currently also holds the school records for Par4 and Par5 scoring in a season and had a low round of 8 under par 64 this season (at Matlock Classic), ranks tied for third in program history. He was a Second-Team PING All-American in 2018 and shot a tournament record 9 under par 63 at the NCAA D-II Championship, finishing second individually. First-Team All-Sunshine State Conference and All-South Region.
