Softball Drops DH to Eckerd on Senior Day

Lynsey Duncan is playing in her last home series as a Buccaneer

MIAMI SHORES, FLA. -- The Buccaneers lost the first two games of a series against Eckerd in double-header action at Buccaneer Field on Thursday afternoon. The Sunshine State Conference opponent took both games today by the score of 11-3 on senior day for the Buccaneer softball program.

SUMMARY:
Game One

  • B2 - The Bucs struck first, but the three runs in the inning would be all the Barry bats could muster in game one. Andrea Johnson led off the inning drawing a walk and Peyton Rawls followed that up with a single through the left side. Jordyn Petty's single back up the middle loaded the bases with one out for the Bucs. Then, Karla Santiago laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to score Johnson. Ayana Andrade-Zygmunt hit a ground ball to score another and Lynsey Duncan's sacrifice fly scored the third run of the inning | Barry 3, EC 0
  • T3 - The Tritons stormed back and put three runs on the board to tie the game with three hits and an error by the Bucs. | Barry 3, EC 3
  • T4 - A big three run home run doubled the Tritons lead over Barry. | EC 6, Barry 3
  • T6 - Eckerd added a run when Eckerd's starting pitcher singled back up the middle. | EC 7, Barry 3
  • T7 - The Tritons tacked on four runs on one hit and two Buccaneer errors. Barry finished the game with six total errors - a season high. | EC 11, Barry 3

SUMMARY:
Game Two 

  • T1 - Eckerd pounded out eight runs on four hits right away in a long first inning. Bucs starting pitcher Peyton Rawls who has been called to pitch, struggled to throw strikes in the inning walking two and hitting two batters. | EC 8, Barry 0
  • B1 - Lynsey Duncan started the inning with her second triple this season and scored on the next play when Savannah Starling grounded out to the shortstop. | EC 8, Barry 1
  • B2 - Rawls walked and hit another pair of batters, but got out of the inning giving up just one run. | EC 9, Barry 1
  • T3 - Barry continued to struggle defensively when two more errors in the inning allowed another Eckerd run to score. | EC 10, Barry 1
  • B3 - Karla Santiago doubled to left field to start the inning for Barry and later advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Duncan walked, Starling grounded out to third base and recorded her second RBI of the game scoring Santiago. Berlin Colvin followed that up with a single up the middle to score Duncan from second. | EC 10, Barry 3
  • T5 - Eckerd picked up the one run needed to end the game early in five innings. | EC 11, Barry 3
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Sports Psychologist Jasmine Oates, athletic trainer Marnie Hawes and center fielder Lynsey Ducan were all honored on Thursday during the last home series of the season for their contributions to the Buccaneer softball program. 
  • Duncan is a four-year letterman that has played in 172 games with 165 starts. In four years, she holds a career batting average of .348 with 179 hits in 514 at-bats. During her career, she has accumulated 38 doubles and is currently tied for eighth all-time in program history. She has been named to a Barry University honors list every semester including the AD's list, Deans list and Presidents list. She has also been named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and has been named an NFCA Scholar All-American twice in her career, respectively. She is studying Business Management and is scheduled to graduate in May, 2019.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will play their last home game of the season tomorrow against Eckerd at Buccaneer Field. First pitch is set for 10:00 AM.
