Baseball Drops Series Opener To #1 Tampa

Bucs fall to 19-6

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The 20th-ranked Barry Buccaneers fell 8-2 to the top-ranked Tampa Spartans on Friday night in Sunshine State Conference baseball action at Feinbloom Field.

  • T1 - The Spartans jumped out to a quick lead in the first and never looked back. Cole Perry and Sam Freitas each had two-run singles. | Tampa 4, Barry 0
  • T2 - Drew Ehrhard was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Danny Sirven. | Tampa 5, Barry 0
  • B2 - Deyvid Silva singled with one out and scored on a bases-loaded walk to JC Garcia. | Tampa 5, Barry 1
  • T6 - Danny Blair led off with a homer to right center. | Tampa 6, Barry 1

  • T7 - The Spartans bunted their way to pair of runs. Freitas has a bunt single and Nick DeTringo reached on a error after a sacrifice bunt. Ehrhard moved both runners with another sacrifice. Yorvis Torrealba lifted a fly ball down the right field line, which rightfielder Ariel Diaz sprinted over to catch in foul ground. Frietas scored on a sac fly and DeTringo was awarded home when Diaz's momentum carried him over the fence down the line. | Tampa 8, Barry 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Keven Pimental (6-1) worked seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out five to pick up the win.
  • Frank II Gonzalez (4-1) took the loss. In four innings, he allowed five runs on nine hits. He walked two, hit three and struck out three.

The series concludes on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
