Basketball Travels to St. Pete To Face The Tritons

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers travel up to St. Petersburg, Fla., to take on the Eckerd Tritons, in Sunshine State Conference basketball action on Saturday, Feb. 9. The women tip at 2:00 pm, followed by the men at 4:00 pm.

Women's Basketball - Saturday, Feb. 9; 2:00 pm; McArthur Center

The Buccaneer women (7-14, 5-9 SSC) are coming off a 74-65 loss at home to Embry-Riddle. Harriet Swindells tied her season-high with 19 points to go with five rebounds and five assists. 

Andersson and Tampa continue to be the one-two punch for the Bucs. Tampa leads the team with 14.9 points and 3.7 assists per game and is second with 5.1 rebounds.  Andersson is second with 14.6 points per game and leads with 7.0 rebounds. Swindells chips in 10.5 points and 1.8 assists per game. 

The Tritons (15-6, 9-4 SSC) have won four in a row including a 51-47 victory over the Albany State Rams.  Chelsea Johnson was the Tritons' only double-digit scorer with 20 points, marking the fourth time this season she has scored 20 or more points. Johnson also dished out four assists while grabbing three steals.

Johnson leads three Tritons in double-figures at 13.3 points per game. Yarden Danan chips in 11.3 points and Zoe Richards comes off the bench for 10.4 per game.

GAME NOTES:

  • Barry leads the all-time series 40-24.
  • In December, the Bucs won the earlier meeting 64-63, snapping a four-game skid in the series. Tampa had 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Andersson added 12 points. Chelsea Johnson led the Tritons with 19 points.

Men's Basketball - Saturday, Feb. 9; 2:00 pm; McArthur Center

The Barry men (13-9, 8-6 SSC) are coming off back-to-back two-point wins after beating Embry-Riddle 70-68 on Wednesday. Tylan Birts score 20 points for the second straight game. David Moya and Daniel Mortensen each chipped in 13 points and Milon Sheffield added 11.

Mortensen leads the team with 13.7 points per game and is shooting 42.0 percent from three-point range. Birts chips in 12.0 points per game and both he and Mortensen average a team-best 5.9 rebounds. Moya's 4.1 assists per game tops the squad.

The Tritons (16-5, 9-4 SSC) saw a four-game winning streak snapped with a 55-53 loss at #11 Lynn. Drushaun McLaurn was the only Triton in double figures with 18 points.

McLaurn leads the Tritons at 17.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Myron Hagins is second at 11.9 points and 6.8 rebounds. Marco Behori comes in at 10.6 points and 6.5 rebounds.
