MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Tylan Birts recorded his second straight 20 point game on Wednesday night when the Buccaneers took down Embry-Riddle 70-68 inside the Health & Sports Center. The junior forward from Florida City, Fla. is averaging 17.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game in his last four contests. The Bucs are 3-1 in that span, with their only loss coming against No. 5-ranked Nova Southeastern 90-85 last Wednesday night at home.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final:  Barry 70, Embry-Riddle 68
Records: Barry 13-8, 8-6 SSC, ERAU 11-14, 4-10 SSC
All-Time Series: Barry leads 10-1

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:

"It was definitely a big win," Birts said. "We stayed locked in. We handled our adversity and now it's on to the next one. Every game matters at this point and we're just trying to give our best effort every night," Birts added.

"We made enough plays down the stretch to get it done," Bucs head coach Butch Estes said. "I am not happy with a lot of things that occurred throughout the game, but we gutted it out. I thought Ty Birts had a tremendous night. Daniel Mortensen got on the boards and did a good job. David Moya certainly had one of his better games and he looks like he is getting back into shape," Estes added.

SUMMARY:

  • The Bucs led by as many as eight in the first half behind 10 first half points from Moya. However, an Eagle basket with 5:47 remaining in the first half cleared the way for a 17-6 ERAU run to close out the half. In that span, the Eagles went on a 12-0 run holding the Bucs scoreless for 2:30.
  • Barry opened the second half with a 9-0 run of their own in which Birts scored six of those points. He would go on to score 16-of-his-20 points in the second half despite playing with four fouls down the stretch for the Bucs.
  • The last two baskets in the game for Barry were layups by Birts at the 2:53 and 1:29 mark extending the Bucs lead to five and forcing the Eagles to foul and send Barry to the free throw line.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Barry really ratcheted up the defensive intensity in the second half, holding ERAU to 29 points and 30.3 percent shooting from the field. "
  • Moya was extremely efficient going 4-for-6 from the field and 3-for-4 from beyond-the-arc.
  • Mortensen is 46 points away from recording 1,000 for his career as a Buccaneer.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers will travel to St. Petersburg on Saturday, Feb. 9 to take on the Eckerd Tritons. Tip-off is set for 4:00pm at the McArthur Center.
