Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Lynn

The Buccaneers fell to the Fighting Knights after a Harriet Swindells heave at the Buzzer didn't go down

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Buccaneer's women's basketball team had a chance to grab an upset win over the Lynn Fighting Knights on Wednesday, Feb. 27, when Harriet Swindells put up a shot at the buzzer with the Bucs down by one point. Unfortunately the heave bounced off the backboard and couldn't catch rim.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: Lynn 63, Barry 61
Records: Lynn (14-10, 8-10 SSC), Barry (9-18, 6-13 SSC)
All-Time Series: Barry leads 32-21

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The pick-and-roll combo of Ida Andersson and Emma Hergot, scoring 5 points each, gave the Fighting Knights fits early on as the Bucs took the lead after one. | Barry 14, Lynn 12
  • 2Q - Both teams went cold late in the period with neither team scoring a point in the last 4:50 of the period. | Barry 24, Lynn 23
  • 3Q - Lynn's Dani Lozzi took over the game in the third quarter, splashing a three and converting all four of her trips to the line to go along with two more layups, totaling 11 points in the frame. | Lynn 47, Barry 44
  • 4Q - Despite being a 93% shooter from the stripe, Lynn's Christina Potts missed a free throw with nine seconds left to leave the door cracked open for the Bucs. After a Barry timeout with two seconds on the clock, the Bucs were unable to get the look they wanted and Swindells was forced into heaving a prayer from deep that ultimately didn't go in. | Lynn, 63, 61

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The biggest difference in the game was the second chance points. Lynn scored 14 second chance points on 13 offensive rebounds compared to zero points for the Bucs despite six offensive rebounds.
  • Barry couldn't keep up with Lynn in the paint, losing the scoring margin in the key 36-22 and losing the rebound battle 45-33.
  • Despite the loss, guard Nichel Tampa had arguably her best offensive game of the season, tallying 17 points but an even more impressive nine assists and zero turnovers.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs will conclude the regular season on Saturday, Mar. 2 when they take on the Saint Leo Lions at home for senior night.
