Baseball Drops Opener To Pioneers

Bucs recovered after 6-run first inning

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers dropped their 2019 baseball opener to the Tusculum Pioneers 7-3 at Feinbloom Field on Friday afternoon.

SUMMARY:

  • T1 - The Pioneers hung six runs on the Bucs in the first inning, as they batted around and sent 12 men to the plate. Bryson Ford had two hits in the inning, scoring once and driving in one run. Zack Finchum and Jadon Steagall each had two-run singles in the frame. | Tusculum 6, Barry 0 
  • B4 - The Buccaneers took advantage of three TU errors to score a pair. JC Garcia scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Cabrera and Justin Lamazares drove in Freddie Matos with a single up the middle. | Tusculum 6, Barry 2
  • T6 - Ford lined into a sacrifice fly to score Steagall. | Tusculum 7, Barry 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Hall (1-0) went five strong innings to pick up the win for the Pioneers. He allowed two unearned runs on two hits and a walk and struck out six.
  • Cuba went the final four innings for his first save. He gave up a run on two hits and struck out three.
  • Gayman (0-1) was tagged for the loss for the Bucs. He failed to get out of the first inning, allowing six runs on four hits and two walks.
  • Pablo Arevalo came in to throw 5.1 innings in relief of Gayman. He gave up one unearned run on four hits and a walk and struck out four.
  • Frank II Gonzalez threw two perfect innings for the Bucs, striking out four.
  • Barry only amassed four hits, one each from Matos, Cabrera, Lamazares and Richie Sobalvarro.
  • Daulton Martin went 3-for-4 for the Pioneers. Ford, Finchum and Steagall each drove in two runs.

The Bucs host the Bentley Falcons on Sunday, Feb. 3 at noon.
