Baseball Rallies Back To Ground Falcons

Bucs scored eight runs in the last five innings

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry fell behind early, but rallied back to take down the Bentley Falcons 14-9 in baseball action from Feinbloom Field on Sunday afternoon. The Bucs evened their record at 1-1.

SUMMARY:

  • T1 - Max Troiani led off with a homer to right center. Brandon Grover followed with a two-run shot to the same spot two batters later. | Bentley 3, Barry 0
  • B1 - The Bucs loaded the bases on two hit batters and a single by Freddie Matos. Paul Salata drew a walk to force in JC Garcia. Matos scored on a sacrifice fly by Richie Sobalvarro. Reuben Pino brought in Andrew Rapoza with a ground out and Salata scored on a single bu Deyvid Silva. | Barry 4, Bentley 3
  • T2 - The Falcons walked the bases loaded to start the frame. Troiani doubled to drive in two runs. Grover and Ryan Berardino each drove in one. | Bentley 7, Barry 3
  • B2 - JC Garcia led off with a single and Matos reached on a error by second baseman Mike Samko. After Rapoza walked to load the bases and Salata went down swinging, Sobalvarro tapped a ball to third base, but hustled down the line to beat the double play, allowing Garcia to score. Pino followed with a single up the middle to bring in Matos. | Bentley 7, Barry 6
  • T4 - Troiani beat out an infield single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Samko drilled a shot up the middle to bring him in. | Bentley 8, Barry 6
  • B4 - The Bucs tied the game with a pair in the fourth. Rapoza smashed a double to left center leading off and scored on a bad-hop single by Salata at first. After Salata moved up to third on a wild pitch and a ground out by Sobalvarro, Pino reached when the catcher was unable to handle the third strike, putting runners on the corner. The pair then worked a double steal with Salata coming home on the delay. | Barry 8, Bentley 8
  • B5 - Garcia reached on a fielder's choice and proceeded to steal second and third. Matos brought him in with a double over Troiani's head in center. Rapoza singled through the left side and both runners scored as Salata laced a triple down the right field line. | Barry 11, Bentley 8
  • B7 - Garcia doubled to lead off the inning. Matos drove a single back up the middle and Garcia came around to score. Matos scored ona double play ball, but Pino delivered an RBI single to score Rapoza. | Barry 14, Bentley 8
  • T8 - Troiani struck again in the eighth. He singled up the middle and scored from first on a double by Samko. | Barry 14, Bentley 9

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Anthony Gutierrez (1-0) tossed 3.2 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win for the Bucs. He allowed one hit and a walk and struck out two.
  • Ronald Orie III (0-1) was tagged with the loss. In two innings of relief, he allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and struck out one.
  • Garcia, Matos and Rapoza all scored four runs for the Bucs. Garcia had two hits, Matos and Rapoza each had three.
  • Salata drove in four for Barry, and Reuben Pino had three. 
  • Troiani went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double, four runs and three RBI to pace the Falcons.

ON THE HORIZON:

Baseball visits the 18th-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 7-9 in the Sunshine State Conference opener for both teams.
