Women's Basketball Falls To Tars

Bucs drop another game on the road

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Barry women's basketball team fell 74-60 to the Rollins Tars at Warden Arena in Sunshine State Conference action on Saturday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The Tars led by four, 9-5, after the first five minutes and held an 18-14 lead at the break. The Tars got baskets from seven players, but only Vernisha Andrews hit more than one. Ida Andersson and Ashleigh Pink combined for 11 of the Bucs' 14 points. | Rollins 18, Barry 14
  • 2Q - Both teams slowed down in the second period, though the Tars added two points to their lead. Andersson and Nichel Tampa scored all 10 points for the Bucs in the period. | Rollins 30, Barry 24
  • 3Q - Ashleigh Pink cut the lead to three points with a three-point play out of the break and Barry trailed just 45-41 after a three-pointer by Andersson at the 3:42 mark. But the Tars closed the period on a 10-2 run, including a pair of free throws by Yari Martinez-Toro with no time on the clock. | Rollins 55, Barry 43
  • 4Q - The Tars continued their run to open the fourth period, out-scoring the Bucs 8-3 in the first two minutes to increase the lead to 17,  63-46. Barry rallied to pull it back to 12, 70-58, on a jumper by Tampa at the 2:58 mark. But the Tars regrouped to swap baskets and finish with the 14-point win. | Rollins 74, Barry 60

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Tampa led the Bucs with 16 points, while Andersson and Harriet Swindells each chipped in 13.
  • Andrews led four Tars in double figures with 14.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry gets their fist home game of 2019 on Saturday, Jan. 12 when they host the 15th-ranked Florida Southern Moccasins.
