Barry Hoops Hosts Florida Southern Saturday

The Bucs will face a tough match up vs. Florida Southern who have both teams nationally ranked

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— Both of the Buccaneers' hoops teams return home on Saturday after mirroring two game road trips at Embry-Riddle and Rollins to take on Florida Southern in another Sunshine State Conference matchup in Miami Shores.

Barry looks to continue conference play after falling short in their last two games, though both Embry-Riddle and Rollins boasted a 7-4 record entering their showdowns with the Bucs.

Harriet Swindells has continued to carve out her role as a scoring specialist off the bench, averaging 13 points per game on 45% shooting over the Bucs last two games. The sophomore from Blackburn, England paces the Bucs in field goal percentage on the season, boasting a 45.7% clip.

The Mocs travel to Miami Shores looking to build on what has been a successful season. Florida Southern currently sits 9th in the D2SIDA women's basketball rankings after recording 13 wins to just one loss over the first stretch of the season.

Seniority has been a strength for the Mocs, the upperclassmen duo of Guard Camille Giardina and Forward Anja Fuchs-Robetin have led the way with scoring totals of 16.5 and 17.3 respectively. Freshman point guard Bekki Kalaydjiev has also made an impact for Florida Southern, leading the team in assist with 3.2 per game despite only starting nine games.

The Barry men's hoops team continues to dominate conference play after dropping their first SSC game of the season against Nova Southeastern. The Bucs have won five straight conference games with the last two coming in blowout victories over Embry-Riddle and Rollins. Next up for the 22nd-ranked (D2SIDA) Buccaneers (10-3, 5-1 SSC) is a conference matchup at home vs. #22 (NABC) Florida Southern (11-3, 4-2 SSC) on Saturday evening.

Senior Daniel Mortensen has continued to lead the Bucs this season, including tying his career high for three points made in a single game with seven buckets from downtown in last weeks win over Rollins. Evan Walshe looks to stay hot after recording double digits points in back-to-back games including his first 20 points outing of the season in Barry's victory over Embry-Riddle.

The Moccasins also come into Saturday's contest riding back-to-back wins despite getting blown out on the road by Florida Tech by 18 points on January 2nd. Florida Southern currently sits one game behind Barry in the SSC standings.

Senior guard Jonathan Lawton has been deadly from deep this season, sinking 3.6 threes a game while leading the Mocs with 21.7 points per game. Slinky Jones has been the anchor of the Mocs on the defensive end, swatting 1.4 shots per game and also averaging one steal per game.
