All-Time Series: Barry leads 1-0-0

SUMMARY:

  • 26:45 - Sarah Wignall gave the Bucs all the offense they would need in the 27th minute when she got her head on a cross from Christy Grimshaw at the far post.
  • 43:57 - Phoebe Licence drove a corner kick over the hand of Knights' keeper Megan LeCours. The ball bounced off defender Birdie McNamara and into the goal off the force of her kick.
  • 69:08 - Jade Adams lined up a free kick in the 70th minute and dropped a dime in the box. Grimshaw got on the end of it and fired ball off defender Greta Ricigliano for her second goal of the season.
  • 70:03 - Less than a minute later, Molly Sharpe got on the board for her second goal. Ellen Cederin fought off a defender in the corner and came away with the ball. Her cross found Sharpe at the top of the box and, after a touch into the area, Sharpe scored past backup keeper Liz Vallatini.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Melanie Zeigner earned the start in goal and made the one save the Bucs were required to make. It was her first win of the season.
  • Maddie Hart-Pomerantz worked an uneventful second period to complete the clean sheet.
  • Both LeCours and Vallatini allowed a brace of goals, with LeCours taking the loss.
  • Barry led 20-2 in shots, including 10-1 on goal.
  • The women's soccer team last played games on back-to-back days against Christian Brothers and Harding at Signaigo Field on Sept. 3-4, 2006 in Memphis, Tenn.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING:

"I'm really proud of the way we came back tonight. We moved the ball really well. That's what I think were seven quality goals in two games. It was great that we got to use our depth as we continue to evaluate at several positions. We have another really big game, a regional game, on Sunday against a tough team. I think the team understand the importance of opening the season strong, so I'm hopeful we'll be able to continue our fast start on Sunday. -- Barry head coach Sarah Dacey

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry travels to Winter Park, Fla., on Sunday, Sept. 2 to face the Wolves of West Georgia in a regional neutral-site match that will be the Bucs' third in four days.
